We're pleased to announce that we'll be running publicity for the forthcoming LP's from Melbourne indie heroes Gaslight Radio and singer/songwriter, heart throb n' all round good guy Tobias Cummings.
Gaslight will be launching their (currently on JJJ) single Guillotine Sun at The Northcote Social Club on the 31st of July with Witch Hats and Amaya Laucirica in support.
Sydney launch will kick off on the 25th of July at The Annandale Hotel.
Tobias will be launching his single Exegesis on the 14th of August also at The Northcote Social Club.
Yup, we're busy! More updates soon!
Tomorrow night is the big night for President Roots as they launch their Migration LP at The Retreat Hotel.

I have posted a free download of Simon (Presroots singer) performing a live version of Somebody Elses Day with Brian Wise (Off The Record - Triple R).
This Thursday night Mornington Peninsula's favorite sons President Roots will be launching their debut LP at The Retreat Hotel (With Brendan Welch in support).
Doors open at 8pm and entry is FREE!
It's been 18 months since rolling out our first promo / publicity campaign and after many hours of discussion, Andrew Keese and I have decided to launch our very own indie record label.
The label is called Departed Sounds and we are drafting deals with Gaslight Radio, Amaya Laucirica, KhanCoban, Lindsay Phillips, The Hovercrafts and Andrew Keese and the Associates. Our no-where-near-finished website can be viewed here.
I'll roll out more Departed Sounds related news in the coming weeks.
We’ll be running publicity for new kids on the block, President Roots.
President Roots hail from the Mornington Peninsula. Against this backdrop the band has crafted a dozen tracks for their debut album Migration, released nationally through Vitamin Records in June.
After 2 years of writing, recording and rehearsing Migration is now ready for your ears. The album was recorded on a minimal budget with generous contributions from Julian Mendelsohn (Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys, Kate Bush) and Mark Frith (The Electric Soft Parade, Gay Dad, Tom McCrae).
Take a listen to a couple of tracks I pulled from the LP this morning.
Someone managed to capture a neat video of The Wildes during their ace performance at last month’s Live in the Living Room event.
Demo time! A couple of music submissions worthy of a mention.
Marblearchie: Tales from the heart, stories from the gutter.... I received a three track demo recorded and mixed at 'A Secret Location' by Paul Maybury.
Track one (the tune I think they're pushing) is a loose pop tune full of catchy guitar hooks. Okay, things get a little better with Kids Don't Believe It. I think I prefer Marblearchie when they simply cruise along instrumentally. Blood Red Rose is the bravest track of the three and my personal fav. Kudos to the guitar man!
Launch / Party - 24th of April - Moser Room
Tom Woodward: Tom is a REAL DEAL singer / songwriter crawling from the dirty streets of downtown Melbourne. If you like The Drones, Lindsay Phillips or anything a little disconnected and dark, your going to dig Tom Woodward.
Josephine is an absolute killer of a track. Tom sings with a lazy swagger while his band The Orphanage provide a candle-like backdrop. The bluesy track on his Myspace Red Sally politely shows off some very tidy slide guitar and Tom's strength as a blues singer.
There are a bunch of local Melbourne shows listed on his website. Tom Woodward's worth a visit, I reckon.
Congrats to The Wildes for FINALLY releasing their stunning debut LP through (watch this space) distribution label, Select Audio Distribution.
We'll be sure to post the forthcoming LP touring dates in the coming weeks.
We set up a Twitter account today. Twitter rules! I'm going to use it to roll out links to interesting music related articles and stories. Oh, we'll also keep you all updated with our label movements, self promotion really... ;)

Demo time! We always listen to CD and download submissions that come through the door here. Here are a handful of artists/bands that we thought were pretty good.
Small Affairs: Going by the promo pic that was sent with the CD, these guys are really young. Leading track The Flow is by far the best tune taken from the EP. Small Affairs are garage rockers with a typical 'Melbourne Rock' influence.
I think the recording lets them down a little. I would like to hear these tunes come out with a little less polish. However, the enthusiasm is clear and I can hear these tunes making waves on youth radio! Nice job Small Affairs.

Phil Smith recently sent me his impressive Goldmine LP. I believe Goldmine is Phil's debut LP. I hear a healthy influence of early Neil Young but with more than enough originality to call his own. Blackbird and Where Does It Go? are standout tracks for me.
Goldmine is packed to the rafters with great Australian tunes of traveling, finally making it home, loss, coming to terms with 'that' girl and ending up at your local pub thinking what the F*&% just happened?
Probably the best demo submission we received this month was from Melbourne's President Roots. It's just weird that I've never heard of these guys before... President Roots write refreshing alt country tunes. Country tunes you can dance to and that's NOT line dancing fool.
At this stage all I have to go by is their Myspace page but I've put my hand up for a copy of the LP. Watch this space!

Come on down to The Northcote Social Club to celebrate The Hovercrafts' first gig of 09. Playing along side them will be Oh Mercy (who are F#$&ing great) on the 24th of Feb.

The Wildes' debut LP Ballad of a Young Married Man has finally been pressed and is officially ready to roll! The band recently signed a distro deal with Sydney based label, Select Audio-Visual Distribution.
No dates have been made to when the LP will be commercially released but we'll be sure to let you know asap. It won't be too far away.

Hi there and welcome to the NEW (and hopefully improved) Show off Services website. 2008 was an amazing year for the label and I’d like to thank ALL the artists and friends for their amazing music and contributions. Without you I’d be cleaning dishes somewhere.
I guess I should use this time to point out some of the new services and initiatives we aim to roll out in 09. Firstly, we are planning to cull at least 50% of the amount of promo CD’s we would normally send out. If marge was still cool she’d be singing ‘it’s a digital world’.
Check out our Clients Page for more details.
We’ll be aiming to offer a more internationally focused campaign for our label and artist clients. With the help of my trusty data entry skills, Show off has build a massive music blogger and college / internet radio database.
We’ll also be looking at running publicity for overseas labels looking to make their mark on the Aussie market.
Within this section of the site we’ll be encouraging our bands to post pics, stories, live and videos on a daily / weekly basis.
Anyway, take a looksy over the site and PLEASE email through any questions or ideas on how to make it even cooler.
Peace and look forward to an ace year kids!

Yup, it’s official, just over ten thousand indie kids have The Hovers’ latest tune in their iPods / iTunes player.

The Wildes have been invited to perform at the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival. We think this is pretty neat! So neat that Show off will keep you in the loop by blogging about The Wildes’ Tamworth journey on the Spanking New Sounds blog. Apparently Sarah Howells will be interviewing the lads during the festival.
